ARIRANG: The BTS World Tour Documentary Collection
Preserving the Journey, the Music, and the Purple Memories of a Global Era
There are concerts that people attend, and then there are moments in history that people remember for the rest of their lives. The ARIRANG era belongs to the second kind.
The ARIRANG BTS World Tour Documentary Collection was created to preserve the story of a remarkable global journey through books, memories, reflections, fan experiences, destinations, cultural encounters, and the unmistakable purple spirit of ARMY. More than a collection of tour books, this series is envisioned as a growing documentary library—a record of an era that brought BTS and millions of fans together across borders, languages, cities, and generations.
For ARMY, a world tour is never simply a schedule of concerts. It is a journey that begins long before the lights go down. It lives in the anticipation of ticket announcements, the excitement of preparing outfits and banners, the friendships formed in fan communities, the journeys to unfamiliar cities, the fan projects created with love, and the emotional moment when an entire stadium becomes a sea of purple.
The ARIRANG documentary collection seeks to capture all of those layers.
A Journey Told Through Many Books
The collection is designed as a multi-volume documentary series, with each book exploring a different chapter of the ARIRANG world.
The journey begins with ARIRANG: The Return of BTS, which establishes the larger story of return, anticipation, identity, and the emotional significance of entering a new chapter.
From there, the collection expands geographically and thematically. ARIRANG Across Asia follows the journey through Asian destinations, exploring the excitement of fans across the region and the cultural connections created through music.
The story then moves into ARIRANG: Europe’s Purple Summer, capturing the atmosphere of a European chapter of the journey—the cities, fans, anticipation, celebrations, and memories that make a tour much larger than what happens on stage.
Future volumes extend the story into other regions, including North America and Latin America, allowing the collection to become a truly global portrait of the ARIRANG experience.
Together, these books form a journey across continents while continually returning to one central idea: music can create a sense of belonging that transcends geography.
More Than a Concert Documentary
A traditional concert record might focus primarily on performances, venues, setlists, costumes, photographs, and production.
The ARIRANG documentary collection looks beyond the stage.
It asks a different question:
What does a world tour mean to the people who experience it?
Behind every concert are thousands of individual stories. There is the fan who saves for months to travel to another country. There is the longtime ARMY who finally gets to see BTS live after years of dreaming about it. There are friends meeting one another for the first time after knowing each other online. There are fan projects assembled quietly behind the scenes. There are handmade banners, purple decorations, letters, gifts, cafés, photographs, journals, playlists, travel memories, and countless conversations.
These stories may never appear in an official tour archive, but they are an essential part of the emotional history of the tour.
That is why this collection places ARMY at the heart of the documentary.
The Purple Ocean
One of the most powerful images associated with BTS fandom is the purple ocean created when thousands of fans illuminate a venue together.
From a distance, it is visually breathtaking.
From inside the crowd, it can feel almost overwhelming.
Every light represents an individual person, yet together those individual lights create something much larger than themselves.
The purple ocean therefore becomes more than a concert image within this collection. It becomes a metaphor for community.
One person may feel small.
A community can become a movement.
One memory may eventually fade.
A documented memory can become part of a shared legacy.
The ARIRANG books aim to preserve those moments so that future readers can look back and understand not only what happened, but what it felt like to be there.
The World Beyond the Stage
A world tour also becomes a journey through cities.
Each destination brings its own atmosphere, food, architecture, traditions, fan culture, languages, and stories. ARMY members may arrive as visitors, but many leave with memories that connect the city permanently to the music they love.
This is why the ARIRANG collection treats each region as more than a geographical stop.
Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America, and other destinations become chapters in a much larger human story.
The books explore the idea of music tourism, fan culture, cultural exchange, and community, while celebrating the unique ways that fans in different parts of the world express their love and creativity.
In this way, ARIRANG becomes a map—not only of concert locations, but of human connection.
The ARMY Experience
At the center of this collection is ARMY.
The fandom is not portrayed merely as an audience watching from the seats. ARMY becomes part of the story itself.
Fans create projects.
Fans organize gatherings.
Fans travel.
Fans support one another.
Fans document memories.
Fans introduce BTS to friends and family.
Fans create art, books, merchandise, photography, videos, events, charitable projects, and communities inspired by the values they associate with BTS.
The documentary collection celebrates that creativity.
It recognizes that a global music phenomenon is ultimately made meaningful through the people who carry its stories forward.
Creating a Permanent Memory
Digital memories can disappear quickly.
A social-media post can become buried beneath thousands of new posts. A photograph can remain on a phone for years without ever being revisited. A conversation can be forgotten.
Books offer something different.
They allow a moment to become part of a physical or digital archive that can be returned to years later.
That is one of the reasons behind the ARIRANG documentary collection.
The goal is not simply to say, “I was there.”
It is to create a record that says:
“This is what this era meant to us.”
A Growing Documentary Library
The ARIRANG collection is envisioned as a continuing library rather than a single book.
Alongside the regional documentary volumes, the larger ARIRANG publishing project can encompass complementary works such as the ARIRANG World Tour Yearbook, fan project documentation, tour companions, journals, memory books, reference collections, and other archival projects.
Each publication can illuminate a different part of the story.
One book can focus on geography.
Another can focus on fan culture.
Another can preserve memories.
Another can document the larger historical context.
Another can become a visual celebration.
Together, they create something that no single volume could accomplish.
Four More Books to Complete the Journey
The ARIRANG documentary journey is already well underway, but the story is not finished yet.
With the first chapters of the collection already published and Book IV — North America’s Purple Journey currently in progress, I still have four more ARIRANG documentary books to create before the core BTS World Tour Documentary Collection is complete.
These remaining volumes will continue the journey across the world and bring the documentary story toward its final chapters:
Book V — Latin America’s Passion will explore the passion, energy, and unforgettable purple spirit of ARMY across Latin America.
Book VI — Asia’s Homecoming will return to Asia, creating another important chapter in the global journey and highlighting the continuing relationship between BTS and its Asian ARMY communities.
Book VII — The Final Concert will document the emotional closing chapter of the tour, focusing on the significance of the final concert and the feeling of reaching the end of an extraordinary journey.
Book VIII — The Complete ARIRANG World Tour will bring the entire documentary journey together, creating a comprehensive record of the tour from its beginning to its final chapter.
Four books remain.
Four more chapters still need to be written.
And each one represents another opportunity to preserve the places, emotions, fan experiences, cultural moments, and memories that make the ARIRANG era meaningful.
From One Book to an Archive
What began as a single idea has grown into something much larger: a developing documentary archive of the BTS ARIRANG era.
The goal is not simply to finish eight books.
The goal is to create a lasting record.
By the time Book VIII is completed, the collection will have traveled across continents, followed the rhythm of the tour, celebrated ARMY communities around the world, and preserved the story of an era that deserves to be remembered.
And that makes these final four books especially meaningful.
They are not simply titles on a publishing schedule.
They are the remaining chapters of a journey.
The purple journey continues.
Why Document ARIRANG?
Because eras pass.
Concert lights eventually turn off. Tour stages are dismantled. Fans return home. Cities continue with their everyday lives.
But memories remain.
The purpose of the ARIRANG documentary collection is to transform those memories into something that can be revisited, shared, studied, and treasured.
For longtime ARMY, these books can become memory keepers.
For newer fans, they can become windows into an extraordinary era.
For future generations, they can provide a snapshot of how music created one of the world's most passionate global communities.
And for the Purple World, they represent something even larger: the belief that stories created through love, creativity, friendship, and shared purpose deserve to be preserved.
Welcome to the ARIRANG World
The ARIRANG BTS World Tour Documentary Collection is ultimately an invitation.
An invitation to remember the excitement.
To revisit the cities.
To celebrate the fans.
To preserve the photographs and stories.
To explore the cultural journey.
To remember the emotions that existed beyond the stage.
And above all, to recognize the power of a shared dream.
This is not simply a collection about concerts.
It is a collection about people, places, memories, music, friendship, culture, and belonging.
It is a documentary journey through a purple world.
And the journey is only beginning.
